Some great new updates have been announced at this years F8 conference for Instagram in 2018.

Instagram’s ‘Explore’ section is getting a makeover

The update will better organize its suggestions into topical channels based on your own interests and tastes, so you can more easily find the type of content you’re looking for.

The new Explore section is powered by artificial intelligence, which is being augmented with content classification and curation signals from the Instagram community to make the experience more personalized.

Group Video Chat is Coming

Instagram is getting support for video chats. This feature is currently in a testing phase and will roll out globally in the coming months.

Users will be able to call one-on-one or join small groups. Video calls can be minimized, so users can keep browsing Instagram or chatting with others while in the video call.

Today’s update adds to a host of features that Instagram has been building to turn the app into a full-fledged messaging service.

Instagram Bully Filter is coming

The new anti-bullying feature uses machine learning called DeepText to identify language that’s intended to harass or upset people. When this type of language is identified, the offensive comment will automatically be removed.

The feature is aimed at “comments containing attacks on a person’s appearance or character, as well as threats to a person’s well-being or health.”

The future is automatically enabled for every user, so if you want to see unfiltered comments you will have to disable the feature in the Comment Controls centre in the Instagram app.
